Ek Salesman ki Gaatha

They say education is what can make you stand on your own in life and can help you reach the zenith of success. But the dilemma with our species Homo sapiens is people with limited education but a zeal to succeed have mostly made it to the top.  Be it Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani or Mr. Jamshedji Tata..
I want to share with you all the story of a “vyapaari aadmi”(that’s what he calls himself) Mr. Narendra Mishra, my dad’s childhood friend from Adra, Bengal who had a very humble background and could manage to study only till 10th. He worked as a folder in a local apparel shop to manage his school fees as his family had 6 members and his father was a pensioner. After 10th, he went to Kolkata (then Calcutta) in 1982 with just Rs. 200 in hand in quest for some work. For 2 days, he stayed on the Howrah railway station platform looking for work. He managed to get a job in a small apparel store in Kalighat. His convincing skills soon took the centre stage. The shop owner was amazed by the kind of connectivity he had with people and the shop had started getting more revenue and footfalls. Soon, he amassed money and opened up a small shop near Rabindra Sadan. His diligence soon reaped benefits and his USP of selling quality cotton fabrics made him a famous name in the southern Kolkata region and an owner of 6 stores in the region. I met him 2 years ago when I went with my dad to see my uncle there.
“Individuality  is something he created for himself that hugely inspired and motivated me.”
