To accomplish my “one day in the shoe of a salesman” assignment, I went to a nearby kirana store – Anjali General Store. As the store is not that big, I thought not much homework need to be done. But my perception changed as I sat there for the two hrs. The 1st thing that I was supposed to do was to know each and every product that was there in the store. Initially I was following how she (the store owner) was attending the customers. She was personally addressing each and every customer and she knew about their daily requirements. Then gradually I started to get into sales process by suggesting other products to the customers. Though I faced rejection, I still continued doing it. In one case a person came to buy a packet of milk. But I managed to make him buy a 100gm butter n a pack of bread. As the store was besides the main road many people simply came in to ask directions and locations. Initially I dint pay much heed to them but then I realised why not to encash them. After that I started interacting with them and tried to sell something like cold drinks, toffee, cigarettes to them. This is how I spend my two learningful hours.
