Prasad Mahajan

From student to entrepreneur

This is a story of a guy whom I met when I was in my 1st yr of hospitality studies at rivi college  of hmct . his name is ashish and at that time  he was in his 2nd yr . the time when he was in  his 1st year  he went for outdoor waitings (catering services ) as a part of the course , but thn slowly n steadily he  was attracted towards that work. In the beginning he started working as a waiting staff with various catering services ;and as we know that top caterings in Mumbai  look for  their  service staff to be very polite and properly grommed  . Events like marriages and other private  functions  last for 1 or 2 days and on the other hand this business is  seasonal  ,therefore the catering owners never kept any permanent waiting staff . This is where ashish came into picture , as he was from hotel management background , having good contacts with the catering people and the  students studying in the college . he started supplying students from college to work  at different events organized at different places( the students were paid ), he was been paid commission behind every student by the caterers . initially  he started with rizvi college but by the end of his 3rd year he was responsible to  manage waiting staff for events and other activities almost in every catering operation . No one knew  how much he  earned  but it was no less than 25000 per month .
He paid his college fees  on his own and now he has opened his own office at kingscircle ,from where he operates his business, and  around 6-7 caterers and other event management  companies contact him for  waiting staff .
