Shashank Sinha

One day evening on my way back home, I saw a poor boy pleading every one of us to buy his flutes. No body  was ready to buy them. He cried and pleaded every one. We all offered him some money. But he refused to take. He said if you want to do something for me just buy these flutes. I felt very bad because I could not do anything for that poor boy who kept saying I do not want money I am not a beggar, I just want to sell these flutes so that I can get some money for my family.
When I reached home I narrated the whole incident to my dad. I could not sleep the whole night .I kept thinking and cursing myself. I should have have  bought his flutes and helped him after all I was ready to offer him money which he refused . I could have helped him. My conscience was pricking me. I could not sleep. Next morning ,when I got ready for work my eyes were searching for that little boy who I saw last evening, with the determination of buying his flutes and helping him. I saw sitting in the corner of the street with the basket of flutes. I approached him and ask to give me some of them. It made the boy happy and he sold me two of them.
I  stood beside the boy the whole day so as to see how he pleaded and requested everyone to buy his flute. It was really a pity to see him requesting everyone to buy his flute. After the whole day was over I asked the boy about his family and why does he did all this. He told me that his name was Iqbal, they all lived in Jammu. Iqbal father was truck driver, but after his father death, he and his mother moved to the new city. So for his living he use to sell the flutes to people so as to get some money. He told that on occasion like Diwali, Holi, Eid and Dusshera he goes to the fair at night and play flute so as to make some more money and sell some of the flutes too. He knows the children like music so usually he goes near the play garden and play music and sell the flutes. He knows how to sell and whom to sell. He was though the child but his idea and knowledge to sell his flute was appreciable. Knowing all this made me happy that the little boy knew what he wants and what he is doing.
